This is one of the most important productivity techniques I have learned and been using for quite some time now.

Not only has it allowed me to accomplish my important tasks daily at work, but also allowed me to also make time and do the things I really want to do.

It’s blocking my calendar.

As you can see in the image, I already have assigned for specific tasks to be done at a certain point in time.

Why I Like This Approach

As I mentioned, blocking my calendar is an important technique that I use. I like it because:

  • It gives me a mental picture of the things I have to do
  • I receive reminders / notifications of my upcoming tasks
  • Since my calendar is linked to my work calendar, these tasks are also synced
  • If other people try to book a meeting with me, they will see that I have other assigned tasks
  • I can go back to check and see what I have done at a specific point in time

It’s Not perfect

Although helpful most of the times, this approach is not perfect.

Since we are just estimating what we would be doing at a certain point in time, we need to be wary of underestimation.

If a task overran, then you have to reschedule your calendar accordingly.

My challenge to you

My challenge is for you to try out this technique as well.

It may be tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, hopefully you’ll learn to love it as well.

Schedule the things that you need to do and put them in your calendar.
