Overview

I’ve recently read the book Make Time by Jake Knapp and John Zeratsky.

The book in 3 sentences

This book by two Googlers gives a ‘framework’ on what you can do in a day to be more productive. The Framework contains the Highlight, Laser, Energize, and Reflect. For each of the elements in the framework, there are suggestions that you can easily incorporate in your life to be able to do what you want to do, even though you have a busy life.

Impressions

The tips in the book are quite practical and easy to implement. Some of the suggestions are either I am familiar with, or I am already incorporating it into my daily life.

One key thing here though that I find different from other books is that it addresses the modern day concerns of technology such as the usage of Infinity Pools (social media) and what you can do to avoid being trapped using it.

How i discovered it

I think someone suggested it from a Youtube Video.

Who Should Read It?

This should be read by people who have a busy schedule, but still want to incorporate a personal project or side hustle.

How the Book Changed Me

It made me realize how Infinity Pools (or social media) are actually designed to suck you in and take a lot of your precious time. Rather than becoming a slave to it, this book taught me to be intentional on how to use it.

My top 3 quotes

  • “You don’t need to follow the daily news. True breaking news will find you, and the rest isn’t urgent or just doesn’t matter”
  • “What’s going to be the highlight of my day?”
  • “Being more productive didn’t mean I was doing the most important work; it only meant I was reacting to other people’s priorities faster”
